still stuck.

still in missouri. got the car towed this morning. it is still outside the shop, and they are not sure when they can squeeze it in.

i'm at a public library right now, where i had to get a library card in order to use the internet. i would kill for clean clothes and a toothbrush. i have been in the same dress for three days and two nights now. bleh. my spirits are better than they were yesterday though, and i am surprisingly happy. i feel like a cute-looking yet dirty homeless person, in my mukluks and knit armwarmers and beanie. also, because i today ate only a coughdrop for lunch.

i am wearing holes in my hand-knit pakistani mukluks because i have explored a good deal of this town on foot today. i bought a trashy magazine and deodorant at a tiny local market. i had two cups of coffee in a tiny coffee shop. my ipod battery is only about 1/3 full, so i am conserving it by keeping it turned off but leaving the earphones in my ears to comfort me.

this is only a mild ordeal, but i feel it has made me a better person. i feel that spending three days straight in a dress has made me more of a woman. accepting generosity from strangers has made me more gracious, and reminded me to give. i heard the story of the beautiful woman i am staying with, and that of my good friend, and they have made me feel brave. spending all day on foot today has reminded me to be appreciative of my legs like i was before i had a car (they feel much sexier when i am depending on them for my well-being).

the car place just called and it will cost $500 and take four hours to fix. they might not be able to be done today. i do not know what i will do. i am going to go now, because my computer library time is down to 4 minutes on the countdown clock, and i already got an extension. so much for my positive outlook. i will go and try to breathe deeply and read my trashy magazine now and try to recover it.
